Europe's largest technology company, SAP, has implemented strict controls on hiring and business travel to prioritize investments in artificial intelligence. According to an internal email, the company is shifting its financial focus toward AI product development, strategic acquisitions, and internal AI adoption to remain competitive.
Under the new policy, recruitment is now limited to critical roles supporting the company's long-term AI strategy. Similarly, most internal business travel has been suspended, with exemptions granted only for customer-facing trips, AI development efforts, and mission-critical AI training for staff.
The company stated that these measures are intended to ensure disciplined spending as operational costs, including AI token usage, continue to rise. SAP emphasized that the strategy is designed to balance necessary investments with responsible cost management to secure the firm's future in the enterprise software industry.
