The Dravida Model 2.0 initiative has outlined six major promises aimed at enhancing Chennai's urban landscape and quality of life. These commitments span community development, infrastructure, mobility, and economic growth.
Enhanced Community Spaces:
Plans include upgrading common facilities in Urban Habitat Development Board Apartments through women-led associations, supported by government funding. RO facilities will be provided in areas lacking Metro water, with a time-bound supply for Metro households. Additionally, high-intensity street lighting will be installed across all neighborhoods. Chennai is also set to gain a world-class cultural landmark, featuring a dedicated venue for global arts, music, and literature events.
Smarter Mobility Across Chennai:
To improve urban transit, 1,000 new mini buses will be introduced, connecting every street to bus stops, Metro, and railway stations. AI-powered traffic management systems are planned to reduce congestion and cut travel time by 25%.
Infrastructure Projects Delivered on Time:
The model promises timely completion of infrastructure projects. Over 10 major projects across Chennai, similar to the Ennore to Poonjeri initiative, are slated for completion by 2027.
Metro expansion is targeted for completion by 2028, while stormwater drains and sewerage works are expected to finish by 2027.
By 2029, "Complete Streets" will be implemented, featuring wide pedestrian pavements, shady tree canopies, and accessible toilet facilities.
Humane and Scientific Dog Population Management:
Efforts to manage the dog population scientifically include a threefold increase in veterinarians and dog catchers under the ABC programme. Expanded shelters will also be established in partnership with NGOs.
Global Centre of Excellence:Chennai aims to become a global center of excellence in AI, Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Immersive Technologies. An immersive tech hub is projected by 2030, backed by a Rs. 10,000 Crore investment, creating 20,000 high-value jobs.
Global Talent Gateway:This initiative will establish world-class infrastructure facilities, provide high-quality skill development training, and foster research hubs, leading to high-income employment opportunities.
