In the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, enthusiastic polling took place in all 234 constituencies, with a historic average of 85.15% recorded across the state. However, in various parts of Tamil Nadu, the public boycotted the elections by not casting their votes. The residents of Kuduvaiyur village, under the Aranthangi constituency in Pudukkottai district, announced their boycott of the elections demanding road facilities. Following this, the Tahsildar held discussions with them. Similarly, in the Keela Alagiyanallur area of Virudhunagar, due to a clash between two groups a few days ago, one faction boycotted voting. Residents of Kulathuvaipatti village, under the Vilathikulam constituency in Thoothukudi district, also boycotted the elections. People from Pudupattinam area in Chengalpattu district announced their boycott of the elections, stating that their demands had not been met. In Vengaivayal, Pudukkottai district, villagers who claimed they did not receive proper justice in the case of human waste mixed in a water tank, hoisted black flags and boycotted voting. Likewise, in Kambuthinaickenpatti, Nilakottai constituency, Dindigul district, dissatisfied residents, due to the relocation of the polling station, tied black flags in the streets and boycotted the elections. Near Srivilliputhur, as no decision was reached regarding the re-installation of the broken Nallathangal temple idol, people protested by boycotting the elections. Residents of Mudalaimeedu Thittu village near Kollidam announced their boycott of the elections, citing the lack of proper roads and basic amenities including drinking water. Near Manamadurai, condemning the death of a youth during police investigation, his relatives boycotted the elections and protested for the 47th day. Akash, a youth from Krishnarajapuram, died on March 8th while in police custody. His relatives have stated that they will not accept the body until the 16 police officers responsible are arrested, and they continued their protest on polling day, demanding justice.
