The Central Government has announced that the VP G Ram G 125-day work scheme, introduced as an alternative to the Mahatma Gandhi 100-day work program, will come into effect from July 1st. The Centre has allocated an interim fund of 95,000 crore rupees for this scheme, with 7,500 crore rupees specifically earmarked for Tamil Nadu. Under the VP G Ram G scheme, financial responsibility is shared between the Central and State governments in a 60:40 ratio. During the previous DMK administration, the scheme faced opposition, and a resolution was passed in the legislative assembly citing concerns over the increased financial burden on the state. However, reports now indicate that the Tamil Nadu government has decided to proceed with its implementation.
