The Chief Minister has requested the central government to withdraw the response provided by the Minister of State for Jal Shakti concerning Unstarred Question No. 876 in the Rajya Sabha on July 27, 2026. He urged that no statutory or administrative approval be granted for the Mekedatu project unless it aligns with the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal award and Supreme Court rulings.
Emphasizing that the Cauvery is a lifeline for millions, the letter calls for the protection of lower riparian states' rights. The Chief Minister requested central intervention to ensure technical and legal examinations are conducted, citing the need to uphold federal harmony and judicial decisions regarding interstate river management.
