The incident of a young woman being beaten to death for loving a youth from a different community near Kovilpatti has caused shock. It was initially reported that 19-year-old Abiselvi from Kayatharu consumed pesticide and committed suicide after her parents objected to her loving a young man she met through Instagram. However, investigations revealed that she was in love with a youth from a different community in the same area, and her mother Estherpalin and brother Sivagnanam beat her to death with a stick, demanding she give up this love. Police have arrested both of them and are investigating.
