The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has formed a new Textbook Development Team to revise political science curricula for Classes 11 and 12. Led by academic Sandeep Shastri, the panel is tasked with integrating themes such as Indian knowledge systems, cultural rootedness, and inclusion into the textbooks.
The committee is scheduled to complete the Class 11 textbook by November, with the Class 12 version expected by July next year. The team comprises various educators and academics from institutions including Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, and the National Law University.
Several members of the new panel have documented associations with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), or the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). These include Yadunath Deshpande, Prashant Divekar, Vandana Mishra, and Ravi Rameshchandra Shukla, all of whom have backgrounds linked to these organizations.
