Congress MP Rahul Gandhi staged a protest outside the Parliament Street Police Station on Wednesday, demanding the registration of an FIR regarding the alleged use of pellet guns during a July 20 anti-NEET protest. Gandhi displayed a container of pellets he claimed were removed from 19-year-old protester Sahil Lochab, who suffered severe injuries during the agitation.
Citing an AIIMS medical report, Gandhi stated that Lochab sustained over 200 pellet injuries across his body and three in his eye, resulting in partial vision loss. He challenged the Delhi Police's denial of using such weapons, questioning who was responsible for the injuries if not the authorities. Senior Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Jairam Ramesh joined the sit-in after police officials declined to file the requested case.
The incident follows ongoing allegations of excessive force during the July 20 'Sansad Chalo' protest, which previously disrupted Parliament's Monsoon Session. While the Opposition has demanded a formal statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, both the Delhi Police and the government have consistently denied the use of pellet guns to disperse protesters.
