Three newborn infants died after a fire broke out at a government women's hospital in Maharashtra's Amravati district early this morning. The blaze occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. in the neonatal intensive care unit located on the hospital's third floor.
Preliminary reports suggest the fire was triggered by an explosion in a ventilator. At the time of the incident, 39 infants were receiving care in the unit. Hospital staff managed to rescue the other children, and six injured infants have been transferred to a nearby government super-specialty hospital for further treatment.
