Families of 57 pilgrims from Kumbakonam are facing an agonizing wait for information after their relatives were caught in flash floods while traveling toward Tibet in Nepal. The pilgrims were traveling in three buses when an avalanche triggered the disaster, disrupting communication lines and leaving many unaccounted for.
Travel agency owner Sadiq Ali confirmed that rescue officials have reported 20 pilgrims are safe and awaiting airlift, while others have been hospitalized. Ali stated he is traveling to Kathmandu to assist in the recovery efforts as local officials continue to struggle with intermittent network connectivity to reach the group.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has expressed shock over the incident and is coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Nepal. The state government has directed officials at Tamil Nadu House in Delhi to expedite relief operations and has established helpline numbers for the affected families.
