The Tamil Nadu Transport Department has deployed over 30 special teams across the state to prevent private omni bus operators from charging excessive fares during the upcoming festive season, including Vinayagar Chaturthi and Diwali. Each team consists of three officials, including a Regional Transport Officer, tasked with monitoring major bus terminals and highways.
Transport authorities have warned that operators found violating regulations or overcharging passengers will face strict penalties, including fines and the potential cancellation of their operating permits. This initiative follows numerous public complaints regarding exorbitant fare hikes during peak travel periods when many residents rely on private buses to travel to their hometowns.
