Meta has announced it will now report child safety concerns directly to the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) portal. The company stated that safeguarding children on its platforms remains a priority and affirmed its commitment to collaborating with the government to ensure perpetrators are held accountable.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology reiterated that the online safety of children is a non-negotiable principle for all social media platforms in India. The government confirmed it is in ongoing discussions with these platforms to identify and remove child sexual abuse material.
Authorities have warned that companies failing to implement proactive safety measures will face official action. This move is significant as social media platforms are frequently used to circulate or facilitate access to illegal content involving the exploitation of children.
