A political confrontation has broken out between the DMK and the TVK following remarks made by DMK president MK Stalin during a campaign rally in Dharapuram. While addressing voters, Stalin targeted the TVK’s bypoll candidate, Sathyabama, by referring to her as "Petti Bama" (Suitcase Bama) and "Palti Bama" (Somersault Bama). Stalin suggested that the candidate had switched from the AIADMK to the TVK after allegedly receiving financial incentives, and he further mocked her physical appearance while questioning how she managed to perform a "somersault."
The TVK leadership has strongly condemned the comments, accusing the DMK chief of body-shaming and using derogatory language against a woman. TVK Industries Minister Keerthana described the remarks as a new low in political discourse, stating that such attempts to demean the dignity of women are entirely unacceptable. "This is about the dignity and respect every woman deserves," Keerthana said, adding that the women of Dharapuram would respond with a unified voice during the upcoming vote on October 6.
Minister Arunraj, also representing the TVK, echoed these sentiments, alleging that Stalin’s comments reflect a broader pattern of disrespect toward women within the DMK. "The people of Dharapuram are watching everything," Arunraj stated, characterizing the behavior as part of the "DMK’s DNA."
Beyond the personal remarks, Stalin used his Dharapuram campaign stop to launch a broader critique of the TVK government, which has been in power for four months. He questioned the administration's achievements, claiming that even those who supported the party are now dissatisfied with its performance. Stalin further criticized the Chief Minister, alleging that he has transitioned from acting in films to "acting in reels" and accused him of shouting rather than addressing substantive policy issues. He concluded by labeling the TVK a "corporate mafia" and challenged the government to account for its campaign promises.
