Renowned Bollywood and Marathi cinema actor Nana Patekar has died at the age of 75 following a severe cardiac arrest. The National Award-winning performer was discovered unconscious at his home in Dona Paula, Goa, and was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, stated that medical teams attempted to revive the actor for 45 minutes using continuous CPR, but were unsuccessful. Authorities have registered a medico-legal case, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled to be performed.
Born Vishwanath Patekar in 1951 in Maharashtra, the actor began his professional career in the late 1970s with his debut film, 'Gaman'. Over the course of his extensive career in theatre, television, and film, he became known for his intense screen presence and his ability to portray complex, unconventional characters with significant restraint.
His filmography includes notable performances in 'Parinda', 'Prahaar', 'Angaar', 'Krantiveer', 'Agni Sakshi', 'Yashwant', 'Ab Tak Chhappan', 'Apaharan', 'Welcome', and 'Natsamrat'. His contributions to Indian cinema were recognized with three National Film Awards: Best Supporting Actor for 'Parinda' in 1989 and 'Agni Sakshi' in 1996, and Best Actor for 'Krantiveer' in 1994. In 2013, he was further honored with the Padma Shri for his service to the arts.
