Police investigating the deaths of five family members in Greater Noida have shifted their focus from suspected food poisoning to a potential suicide pact driven by a long-standing property dispute. The bodies of Mahesh, his wife Lalita, and their three children were discovered in their home on Saturday.
Initial reports suggested the family may have died after consuming tea and noodles the previous evening. However, post-mortem examinations revealed evidence of poisoning, leading medical examiners to preserve viscera samples for detailed laboratory analysis to confirm the exact cause of death.
The investigation took a significant turn on Sunday following the discovery of a voice note recorded by Mahesh on his mobile phone. In the recording, he explicitly blamed two of his sisters and a brother-in-law for the family's distress. This audio file has now become a central piece of evidence for investigators.
Acting on a complaint filed by a relative alleging harassment, police have detained the three individuals named in the voice note. A formal case has been registered against them, and authorities are currently examining the extent of their involvement in the events leading up to the tragedy. While the suspects are in custody, police noted that their specific role in the deaths remains under investigation.
