C. Vijayabaskar met Speaker JCT Prabhakar in person at the Chennai Secretariat and submitted his resignation letter. C. Vijayabaskar, who was dissatisfied with AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami, resigned from his MLA post. Speaker J.C.T. Prabhakar announced that the resignation of AIADMK MLA C. Vijayabaskar has been accepted.
Following C. Vijayabaskar's resignation, the number of AIADMK MLAs who have stepped down has increased to five. With C. Vijayabaskar's resignation, the strength of AIADMK MLAs in the Legislative Assembly has reduced to 42. Following the change in government, MLAs from Madurantakam, Dharapuram, Perundurai, and Ambasamudram had already resigned.
Former minister C. Vijayabaskar is the 5th AIADMK MLA to resign from his post. During the assembly confidence vote, Vijayabaskar voted in favor of the DVK government, defying the AIADMK whip's order. Due to defying the whip's order, EPS had stripped C. Vijayabaskar of his district secretary and other posts. Even when other disgruntled AIADMK MLAs rejoined EPS, Vijayabaskar continued to act independently. Vijayabaskar first became an MLA in 2001, contesting from the Pudukkottai constituency on an AIADMK ticket.
