India’s space journey reached a new milestone with the successful flight of Vikram-1, the country’s first orbital-class rocket designed by a domestic private company.
Vikram-1 is constructed entirely from lightweight carbon and its engines were produced using 3D printing technology. The rocket is designed to place small and medium satellites weighing up to 350 kilograms into low Earth orbit at an altitude of 450 kilometers.
The rocket is named Vikram-1 in memory of Vikram Sarabhai, widely regarded as the father of India’s space program.
