Indian athlete Sarvesh Kushare secured a historic silver medal in the men's high jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The 31-year-old cleared 2.25 meters, becoming the first Indian to earn silver in the event. He finished behind Jamaica's Romaine Beckford, who took gold on a countback after both athletes failed to clear 2.28 meters. England's Jack Kimani claimed bronze with a 2.20-meter jump.
Kushare’s achievement surpasses the previous Indian record of bronze, set by Tejaswin Shankar in 2022. Shankar withdrew from this year's competition to focus on the decathlon, while fellow Indian Adarsh Ram finished fifth with a 2.15-meter clearance. Kushare, who holds the national record of 2.31 meters, is also the first Indian to reach a World Athletics Championships high jump final.
Born to a farming family in Maharashtra's Nashik district, Kushare began his journey training on a makeshift pit built by his father. His Commonwealth success follows a third-place finish at the Monaco Diamond League earlier this month.
