The Union Cabinet has approved a Reserve Bank of India proposal to introduce plastic banknotes into circulation. As an initial pilot project, the government plans to print 10 and 20 rupee notes made of plastic, with a total value of 100 crore rupees each.
These new plastic notes will circulate alongside the existing paper currency currently in use.
