Relentless monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh have resulted in 157 deaths and the closure of 259 roads due to landslides and flash floods. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, the disaster has caused an estimated Rs 886 crore in damages, affecting nearly 900 properties and public works between June 30 and August 9.
Infrastructure damage remains severe, with 161 power transformers and 54 water supply schemes currently non-functional. The Mandi-Kullu highway is among the major routes blocked, while Kullu and Mandi districts face the most significant disruptions to essential services.
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall across five districts, including Shimla and Mandi. Authorities are attempting to restore connectivity, though ongoing adverse weather conditions continue to hinder recovery efforts.
