Nepal has issued an urgent high alert following reports of a dam breach on the Tibetan side of the border. Authorities warn that rising water levels in the Bhote Koshi, Trishuli, and Narayani rivers pose a significant risk of flash flooding to downstream communities.
Security personnel have restricted movement near the Nepal-China border and riverbanks, while rescue teams and equipment in vulnerable areas like Bidur and Trishuli Bazaar have been relocated. Residents in districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Chitwan, and Nawalparasi are advised to remain vigilant and prepare for potential evacuations.
This warning follows the catastrophic flash floods of August 26, which resulted in over 470 deaths and extensive damage to infrastructure and power generation capacity. Officials have urged the public to avoid travel along river-valley highways until the threat of further outburst floods subsides.
