Data released by World Visualized details the human cost of natural disasters worldwide in 2026. Heatwaves in Europe claimed the highest toll, resulting in more than 35,000 deaths. Significant casualties were also reported following a major earthquake in Venezuela, which killed 6,509 people, and flash flooding in Nepal, which left over 460 dead.
Other notable disasters included earthquakes in Colombia, the Philippines, and Indonesia, which caused 331, 107, and 103 deaths respectively. Typhoon Maysak in Asia resulted in over 160 fatalities, while flooding in Zimbabwe and Kenya claimed 134 and 112 lives. In India, flooding caused more than 100 deaths.
Additional reports indicate that natural disasters in Brazil, the United States, Bangladesh, Malawi, and Japan resulted in 73, over 70, 54, 40, and 39 deaths respectively.
