Twenty-one Tamil pilgrims rescued from severe flooding and glacier bursts in Nepal arrived in Chennai late last night. Upon reaching Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the group was met by a delegation of Tamil Nadu ministers who provided medical assistance and food before arranging their onward flight to Chennai.
Meanwhile, the status of 85 other Tamil pilgrims stranded in the Rasuwa region remains unknown due to a complete breakdown in telecommunications. To coordinate rescue efforts, the state ministerial team has established an emergency control room at Tamil Nadu House in Delhi.
The ministers also met with Union Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to urge the central government to expedite the safe evacuation of all remaining pilgrims. The Tamil Nadu government has requested that rescue operations be intensified in close coordination with Indian embassy officials in Nepal.
