Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has announced a series of water infrastructure projects under Rule 110, with a total investment of Rs 4,800 crore. The initiatives aim to ensure safe and uninterrupted water supply across various regions of the state.
A key component of the plan includes a new desalination plant in Minjur, capable of processing 400 million liters of water daily to serve North Chennai, Avadi, Ponneri, and Minjur. Additionally, Rs 500 crore has been allocated to provide 24-hour water supply to all households in the Avadi municipal corporation.
Further funding includes Rs 1,000 crore to upgrade water facilities in Madurai, Cuddalore, nine municipalities, and 20 town panchayats, along with Rs 300 crore for the first phase of renovating 33 aging combined water supply schemes. Finally, Rs 410 crore will be invested to increase the capacity of the Kilpauk water treatment plant in Chennai.
