The Tamil Nadu government has begun selling onions through public distribution system outlets today to help stabilize market prices. Ration cardholders can now purchase one kilogram of onions at a subsidized rate of 35 rupees per unit.
This initiative follows a recent surge in retail prices, where onions have been selling for as much as 60 rupees per kilogram in open markets. The state government introduced the measure to provide relief to consumers facing the current price hike.
