Rescue teams in Nepal successfully pulled a Chinese man and a woman from debris on Saturday, ten days after catastrophic floods struck the country. The man was recovered from a hydropower tunnel at the Trishuli-3A project, while the woman was discovered inside a damaged house in Nuwakot. Both survivors are currently receiving medical assessments and treatment.
The operation at the Trishuli hydropower site involved a joint team of Nepalese military personnel and South Korean disaster experts. Authorities report that rescue efforts remain focused on twelve hydropower projects where approximately 900 workers are missing, with roughly 500 believed to be trapped in tunnels. International teams from India, China, South Korea, and the United States are assisting in the search.
The devastating floods, which occurred on August 26 and were likely triggered by a glacier collapse, have resulted in at least 1,300 confirmed deaths. According to Nepal’s disaster management agency, more than 5,000 people remain missing as search operations continue across the affected regions.
