Renowned Tamil scholar and debate moderator Professor Solomon Pappaiah has passed away due to ill health. A former Tamil professor at the American College in Madurai, Pappaiah was widely celebrated for his accessible commentaries on classical literature, including the Thirukkural. He was honored with the Padma Shri by the central government and the Kalaimamani award by the Tamil Nadu government for his contributions to Tamil literature.
Political leaders, including Anbumani Ramadoss, Seeman, Premalatha Vijayakanth, TTV Dhinakaran, and GK Vasan, expressed their deep condolences.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid tribute, stating that Pappaiah played a pivotal role in transforming debate shows into intellectual platforms. Speaker Bharathi Baskar also shared a poignant tribute, stating that his loss has left them feeling orphaned. Leaders across the spectrum noted that his death is an irreparable loss to the Tamil intellectual and artistic community.
