Renowned Tamil scholar and debate moderator Solomon Pappaiah passed away in Madurai this morning at the age of 90. He had been suffering from age-related health issues and had been battling a fever for the past two days.
Known for his unique voice and ability to connect literature and mythology with everyday life, Pappaiah moderated over 12,000 debates throughout his career. He last served as a moderator for a special Sun TV debate held in Sivakasi on October 5. In recognition of his contributions, the central government awarded him the Padma Shri in 2021. His passing is considered a significant loss to the world of Tamil literature and public debate.
