The Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department has introduced strict new regulations governing the quality and pricing of prasadam sold at state-controlled temples. Commissioner Vinay issued the official directive following numerous complaints regarding substandard quality and irregularities in sales previously managed by private contractors. Moving forward, temples are mandated to produce and sell prasadam directly.
Under the new guidelines, the production costs and retail prices for items such as laddu, adhirasam, and thenkuzhal have been standardized. To ensure quality, temples must exclusively use Aavin ghee and ingredients sourced from cooperative stores. Furthermore, all prasadam packaging must clearly display the manufacturing date, net weight, price, and the temple's address.
Detailed protocols have also been established for smaller temples regarding kitchen maintenance and production management. Officials are now required to maintain meticulous records of production expenses and secure formal approval from HR&CE authorities. These measures are intended to ensure that devotees receive high-quality offerings.
