Chennai police have arrested 285 individuals with criminal records following a series of targeted operations across the city. The crackdown was initiated to maintain public order and prevent further criminal incidents following recent high-profile murders in the city, including the killing of a political figure in Perambur and an actor in Tondiarpet.
Under the direction of Commissioner Amalraj, police conducted intensive searches throughout the night and into the following day. The operation focused on individuals with prior criminal histories, those with outstanding court warrants, and known offenders who had been evading authorities.
The arrests were distributed across the city's zones, with 108 people detained in the North zone, 38 in the West, 94 in the South, and 45 in the East. Commissioner Amalraj has issued a stern warning that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt public peace or engaging in criminal activities.
