Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK leader Vijay is set to address a campaign rally in Dharapuram today in support of party candidate Sathyabama. The by-election for the Dharapuram (Reserved) assembly constituency is scheduled for October 6, with 22 candidates, including those from the DMK, AIADMK, NTK, CPI, and independents, currently in the fray.
The rally will be held on a 54-acre ground in the Maruti Nagar area along the Dharapuram-Udumalaipettai road. Preparations, including the construction of the stage and a large marquee, are nearing completion.
Authorities have imposed strict crowd control measures, limiting attendance to 10,000 people. Despite this cap, officials anticipate a large turnout of supporters and the general public. To maintain order and prevent untoward incidents, approximately 7,000 police personnel have been deployed for security duty.
The district administration and local police are overseeing logistical arrangements, including power supply, drinking water, and medical support teams.
Traffic diversions have been implemented specifically for heavy vehicles, such as lorries. Buses, cars, and two-wheelers will continue to operate as usual. Heavy vehicles arriving via Oddanchatram are being diverted through the Udumalaipettai-Pollachi route, while those coming from Karur are directed via Palani-Pollachi. Police have indicated that further temporary traffic adjustments may be implemented for vehicles traveling from Tiruppur to southern districts.
