Nayara Energy, India's largest private fuel retailer, has increased petrol prices by ₹5 per litre and diesel by ₹3 per litre. The price hike, which took effect in the early hours of Saturday, October 3, 2026, aims to align retail rates with rising international oil and refined-product costs.
The company, which operates 7,108 petrol pumps across India, previously adjusted prices in March and July of this year in response to global market fluctuations. This latest move follows reports of significant marketing losses incurred by fuel retailers due to elevated crude prices and stagnant domestic pump rates.
While private retailers face pressure to pass on costs, state-owned oil marketing companies have maintained relatively stable prices. The government recently directed private firms not to cap fuel sales at their outlets, even as industry analysts warn that sustained price increases could impact freight costs and broader inflation.
