AISA activists gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on October 3, 2026, under heavy police security. The demonstration followed the detention of more than 1,000 protesters, including student and political leaders, during the previous day's rallies demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral roll revisions. Delhi Police have filed three FIRs regarding the October 2 protests, though no specific individuals have been named.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has threatened a mass protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 if the Chief Election Commissioner does not resign. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke stated that the planned demonstration would be peaceful. The movement has received backing from political figures, including former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh also weighed in, alleging that the Prime Minister is aware of issues within the Election Commission's IT division. Ramesh claimed that an officer previously flagged by election commissioners continues to hold a key position.
