The Tamil Nadu government is preparing for a significant cabinet reshuffle following the conclusion of the by-elections in Madurantakam and Dharapuram. Reports indicate that Chief Minister Vijay is considering these changes to address dissatisfaction with the performance of certain current ministers.
Political circles suggest that the reshuffle may also involve a strategic realignment of the ruling TVK-led Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance. While the current coalition includes the Congress, VCK, IUML, and MDMK, tensions have surfaced due to persistent criticism from the Communist parties and the VCK. Although the Communist parties have extended external support to the government, their vocal opposition during the by-election campaigns has reportedly caused friction with the Chief Minister.
In response to these political dynamics, the government is exploring the inclusion of the PMK, which holds four seats in the legislative assembly, into the ruling coalition. Sources close to the administration suggest that if the PMK joins the alliance, the party's legislative leader, Sowmya Anbumani, is being considered for a cabinet position.
Defending the potential shift in alliances, TVK representatives questioned the stance of their current partners. "When the Communist parties were part of the DMK alliance, they did not criticize the coalition leadership. Is it fair for them to criticize the newly formed TVK government at every turn? We are unsure of their intentions," a party member stated. They further noted that because the PMK and VCK have previously worked together, their inclusion would not pose a significant issue for the coalition's stability.
