More than 100 candidates belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS) category have been assigned postgraduate medical seats under the self-financed quota in private institutions during the first round of NEET-PG 2026 counselling. These allotments involve courses where tuition fees can reach as high as Rs 2.1 crore for a three-year duration.
According to the official seat allotment list, while the candidates were identified as EWS, they were granted seats under the open category through the self-financed merit quota. The selection process followed the preferences submitted by the candidates during the counselling phase, with seats allocated based on their respective ranks.
Specific instances highlighted in the data include a candidate with a NEET-PG rank of 79,396 who was allotted an MS in obstetrics and gynaecology at Padmashree Dr DY Patil Medical College in Navi Mumbai. The tuition fee for this three-year program is approximately Rs 2 crore. Similarly, a candidate ranked 71,263 secured an MD in radio-diagnosis at Raja Rajeswari Medical College in Bengaluru, where the three-year tuition cost is estimated at Rs 1.8 crore.
Following these allotments, the candidates now have the option to retain their assigned seats, seek an upgrade through subsequent rounds, or exit the counselling process.
