The Tamil Nadu government has officially authorized theaters across the state to screen six shows daily for newly released Tamil films. This permission applies for the first week following a movie's release, with screenings permitted between 6:00 AM and 2:30 AM the following day.
The decision follows requests from the Tamil Film Active Producers Association, the Tamil Film Producers Council, and the Tamil Nadu Theater and Multiplex Owners Association. These organizations sought the increase to accommodate demand for new releases.
Previously, under the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules of 1957, theaters were restricted to four shows per day. Current regulations also allow for five shows on weekends, public holidays, and local festival days, as well as for the first seven days of a new film's run.
