India has achieved a significant global breakthrough in clean energy by developing a method to produce green hydrogen from nuclear reactors. This innovation utilizes the heat generated during nuclear energy production, offering a pathway to create large volumes of clean fuel without carbon dioxide emissions. Hydrogen is widely recognized as a crucial fuel for future decarbonization, particularly in challenging sectors. Indian scientists at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) in Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu, have demonstrated that advanced nuclear reactors can now generate both electricity and hydrogen from a single source. This development marks a major step in India's fast breeder reactor program. The Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR) at IGCAR, a cornerstone of India's advanced nuclear journey, was highlighted in a recent report.
