The 'Salem Textile Park' was a very important project introduced during the previous DMK regime with the aim of enhancing industrial development in Salem district. While the initial works for this project were progressing rapidly, MLA Lakshmanan has announced that he will immediately stop it.
He has unequivocally stated, "My first and foremost objective is to immediately halt all ongoing works at the Salem Textile Park." While it was expected that the MLA's first priority would be constituency development, his statement that his ambition is to cripple an already ongoing manufacturing sector project has drawn severe criticism on social media.
This textile park was seen as the only hope to revive Salem's economy and provide employment to thousands of youth. Development or Politics? - Voters' Outcry Salem city voters, especially the educated middle class, are dissatisfied with such legislative priorities.
The question has arisen, "Is this the reward for Salem city voters who voted for change?" On one hand, while neighboring districts like Coimbatore and Erode are witnessing tremendous growth in the industrial sector, there is a public concern as to why Salem alone is moving backward.
