Opportunity to get ₹2,200–₹2,400 per quintal during harvest season!Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has released an important price forecast for farmers planning to cultivate maize.
Accordingly, the farm gate price for quality maize is predicted to be between ₹2,200 and ₹2,400 per quintal during the October–November 2026 harvest season. The Central Government has fixed the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for maize at ₹2,410 per quintal for this year.
However, TNAU has advised farmers to consider market conditions and plan their cultivation and sales accordingly, as the market price might be slightly lower than the MSP.The university stated that this price forecast was prepared by analyzing maize prices recorded in the Udumalpet regulated market over the past 15 years, current market research, and demand-supply conditions.
India is expected to produce 5.51 crore tonnes of maize this year, leading to a high supply in the market.
At the same time, there is continuous demand for maize due to its use in poultry feed, cattle feed, ethanol production, and industrial applications.
However, experts also state that the increased use of FCI rice in ethanol production could put pressure on maize prices.
In Tamil Nadu, maize is extensively cultivated in Salem, Namakkal, Dindigul, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Villupuram, and Tiruppur districts. Agricultural experts believe that this price forecast will be an important guide to help farmers make correct cultivation decisions.
