Johnson & Johnson has offered a $5.5 billion settlement to resolve thousands of lawsuits alleging that its talc-based baby powder caused ovarian cancer. The proposal is contingent upon approval from 95 percent of the plaintiffs involved in the 69,000 cases currently pending in U.S. courts.
While the company continues to deny any link between its talc products and cancer, it has already discontinued the sale of the powder in the United States in 2020 and globally in 2023.
