A young boy, Hridip, died on July 19 after being swept away by floodwaters in the Bamunpukhuri Tea Estate of Sivasagar district. The child was attempting to save his pet dog when the strong current pulled him away, despite his father's attempts to intervene. The dog survived the incident.
Following the tragedy, Hridip’s mother urged parents to remain vigilant and called on the government to improve disaster response infrastructure, specifically requesting boats for vulnerable villages. The state's flood death toll has now reached 82, with the Assam Disaster Management Authority reporting that nearly 1.92 lakh people remain affected across five districts.
Although the flood situation is showing signs of improvement, 379 villages across 17 revenue circles remain inundated. Authorities are operating 54 relief camps sheltering over 12,000 displaced residents, while National and State Disaster Response Force teams remain deployed to assist those impacted.
