The Alipore Zoological Gardens in Kolkata has been forced to switch the diet of its lions and tigers from buffalo meat to mutton due to the ongoing ban on beef in West Bengal. Zoo officials confirmed that the policy shift has resulted in a significant increase in operational expenses.
Previously, buffalo meat was procured at a cost of 285 rupees per kilogram. With the zoo now required to purchase mutton at 726 rupees per kilogram, management is facing a substantial financial burden to maintain the animals' nutritional requirements.
