A Delhi court has acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and former assistant secretary Vinod Tomar in a sexual harassment case. The verdict concludes a legal process initiated by six women wrestlers who began protesting at Jantar Mantar in April 2023. Following the protests, the Delhi Police registered FIRs and subsequently filed a chargesheet against the accused.
The legal proceedings involved multiple stages, including Supreme Court intervention and the framing of charges related to sexual harassment and intimidation in May 2024. Throughout the trial, the court also addressed a separate complaint involving a minor wrestler, ultimately accepting a police closure report regarding that specific allegation. The court had previously discharged Singh in one instance due to insufficient evidence.
Following the acquittal, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh expressed satisfaction with the court's decision. Conversely, wrestler Vinesh Phogat stated that the complainants have not lost hope and intend to pursue an appeal against the ruling.
