Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor has established a lead of over 6,000 votes following the 10th round of counting in the Bankipur assembly by-election. This performance places the strategist-turned-politician on track to capture a constituency that has been a stronghold for the Bharatiya Janata Party since 1995.
The by-election was triggered after BJP National President Nitin Nabin vacated the seat upon his election to the Rajya Sabha. The BJP nominated youth wing leader Neeraj Kumar Sinha to defend the seat, which Nabin had held for five consecutive terms.
This shift in voter sentiment marks a significant departure from the November 2025 general elections, where Nabin secured a decisive victory with over 63% of the vote. The current results represent a major challenge to the BJP's long-standing dominance in the region.
