Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Marie Wilson will present the first budget of the C. Joseph Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. The presentation follows the release of a white paper detailing a significant financial burden, with the state's total debt reaching Rs 13.18 lakh crore and interest payments rising by 61 percent over the last five years.
Despite these fiscal constraints, the government is expected to announce a Rs 50,000 crore state investment fund to support sectors such as semiconductors, electric vehicles, and artificial intelligence. Other anticipated initiatives include the launch of a No-Application Governance system to automate welfare distribution and the establishment of an AI City and university to bolster the state's technological infrastructure.
Public and academic observers remain focused on whether the administration can balance these ambitious development goals with its election promises. While some experts note a decline in industrial investment and job creation, the government has confirmed that the budget speech will be live-streamed to ensure transparency regarding its economic vision.
