A special court in Chennai has formally framed charges against former minister Ma Subramanian and his wife, Kanchana, in connection with the alleged fraudulent transfer of government-owned SIDCO land. The case stems from accusations that Subramanian misused his position as Chennai mayor to facilitate the transfer of land allotted to S.K. Kannan in Guindy to his wife’s name using forged documents.
The CB-CID registered the case under provisions of cheating, criminal conspiracy, and the Prevention of Corruption Act following a complaint filed by Parthiban of Saidapet. Although Subramanian previously challenged the proceedings in the Madras High Court, his petition was dismissed last year.
Both accused appeared before special judge C. Sanjay Baba and denied the allegations, terming them false. The court has scheduled the commencement of witness examination for August 31.
