Christopher Nolan’s epic film, The Odyssey, has surpassed $1 billion in global ticket sales just three weeks after its release. The movie, which stars Matt Damon as the Greek king Odysseus, earned $429.65 million domestically and $578.8 million internationally. It is the director’s first film to reach this milestone since 2012.
Imax screenings have contributed $257 million to the total, with the film expected to become the company’s highest-grossing release by the end of the weekend. The movie achieved this financial success before its scheduled opening in China on August 14, where it will debut on nearly 800 Imax screens.
The Odyssey is the fifth film of 2026 to join the billion-dollar club, marking a significant recovery for the box office. Industry analysts expect the film to remain a major draw through the fall, potentially helping domestic ticket sales exceed $4 billion for the second time since the pandemic.
