President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that no negotiations are currently taking place or scheduled with Iran. He asserted that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and operational, noting that all water mines have been cleared or detonated.
Conversely, top Iranian negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf declared that the shipping route will remain closed until the United States fulfills conditions from a June interim deal. These requirements include lifting oil sanctions, ending port blockades, releasing frozen assets, and ceasing military threats.
While special envoy Jared Kushner recently expressed optimism regarding robust communications, Trump confirmed he is not seeking to extend the existing interim agreement. Meanwhile, Iranian officials have indicated a shift toward a fully offensive military posture as diplomatic efforts remain stalled.
