Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has stated that surplus water is being wasted into the sea due to the absence of a dam at Mekedatu. He emphasized this issue during a meeting attended by chief ministers from southern states.
Shivakumar argued that constructing the dam would allow for water storage to combat drought, ultimately benefiting both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Additionally, he noted that a legal battle concerning the Krishna river water dispute is currently ongoing in the Supreme Court.
