Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has stated that the proposed Mekedatu dam project is primarily intended to address the drinking water requirements of Bengaluru. Speaking to reporters following a conference of South Indian chief ministers, he emphasized that the project is designed to meet the city's essential needs.
Shivakumar clarified that only 5 TMC of water will be diverted from the Mekedatu reservoir for Bengaluru's consumption. He further assured that the remaining water will be released to Tamil Nadu.
